Ultimate Courage Overcoming Obstacles Inc., a 501 (c) (3) non-profit

organization will raise funds for spine and neurological research and

treatment with all money going to the Barrow Neurological Institute.

Cristin's Story: In July 2000 I was hit by a car while cycling and suffered temporary paralysis, fractures in my spine, broken ribs, head trauma, among other serious injuries. I had no feeling in my legs for a period of time and told I might not walk again. Life changing for anyone, let alone an athlete. After 10 years of accident related pain, I required complex spine surgery.

January 2010 I underwent surgery where Dr. Randall Porter at Barrow Neurological Institute placed 14 screws, 4 rods, and 2 plates, stabilizing my spine. I was given a 2nd chance and 8 months later ran a 3:16 marathon qualifying for Boston.

I plan to use this 2nd chance to help others overcome the obstacles they are faced and advance neurological research leading to the advancement in treatment capabilities. I hope you can see the light that I often witness in watching patients overcome major obstacles.

I will be organizing multiple events to support this cause and hope that you can too assist in furthering research and treatment for spine and neurological conditions and injuries. I so appreciate each and every individual that continues to inspire and motivate me in following my dreams and goals. You are all what makes each day so much brighter.
