I am a chartered accountant with over 18 years of experience in financial management, corporate finance and change management.
Between 2011 and 2013, I was the Financial Controller at Ikoyi Hotels Ltd. Upon privatization, I was involved in the redevelopment of the hotel and securing a management contract. In 2013 I helped secure over $100m in funding for the development of Southern Sun Ikoyi Hotels Ltd.
In 2014, I was also involved in the successful privatisation and takeover of Ikeja Electric, one of Nigeria's largest power distribution companies with annual revenue of over N100 billion. I started off as a Senior Accounts Manager before setting up the Revenue Mobilization, Monitoring and Assurance Unit which was instrumental in the turn around of the commercial performance of the business
From the had of RMMA I as made Acting Chief Commercial Officer for one year ending December 2019 before being promoted to Chief Marketing Officer
I am in charge of implementing strategies that will help increase revenues and reduce losses. I am also responsible for positioning the company as a world-class utility company providing non-energy related services to customers within the franchise area and beyond.
I am also a blogger and regularly write on personal finance and analyze company results. As an accountant, I observed most articles on personal finance and financial analysis were from foreign financial websites and blogs. There were very few homegrown financial blogs. So in 2011, I started my first major blog ugometrics.com where I write.
As a financial literacy and retail investor advocate, my expertise and opinions are often shared radio and TV shows where I appear as an in-house expert in matters of the economy. I am also the co-host of the Everyday Money Matters show on Lagos Talks 91.3 radio.
In 2013, I founded Nairametrics.com dropping "Ugo" for "Naira" as I sought a website that was not about me and my opinion. I wanted to create a website where expert analysts can help analyze the news and provide useful information for investors and anyone looking for information that can help create and sustain wealth. I also wanted a site where those new to investing can read financial news and information in a simple and descriptive manner.
Ugo is also a public speaker and regularly comments on matters of the Nigerian economy, the stock market, corporate Nigeria and personal finance.
