Dr. Bruce Uhrmacher

P. Bruce Uhrmacher is Professor of Education and Director of Curriculum and Instruction, in the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver. He also serves as the faculty advisor for the Aesthetic Education Institute of Colorado, co-sponsored by the Morgridge College of Education and Think(360)Arts. His research interests include alternative education, Waldorf schools, curriculum theory and practice, and understanding teaching, curriculum, and learning from artistic and aesthetic viewpoints.

Bruce is affiliated with a number of professional organizations and journals. He is a past President and active member of the American Association for Teaching and Curriculum (AATC). He is also a Co-Editor of Curriculum and Teaching Dialogue, and Culture Currents Editor of the International Journal of Leadership in Education. Bruce has published in a variety of journals, often with current and past students.

Bruce is currently researching ways to provide engaged learning in K-12 settings. In particular, he is focused on the six dimensions of an aesthetic experience, which include Connections, Risk-taking, Imagination, Sensory experience, Perceptivity, and Active engagement (CRISPA).

Bruce's main hobby is drumming, which he started at the age of 50. He lives in Denver with his wife Lisa, their two children, Arianna and Paul, and a menagerie of animals.
