NKBY is the poetic electronic music project of Turkish poet, author and songwriter Ulaş Nikbay. His poetry collection “Gülüşlerinin Sonbaharında Ağlardım” (2001) received the Dünya Kitap Dergisi Poetry Award, awarded by a jury comprising Haydar Ergülen, Şükran Kurdakul, Sait Maden, Faruk Şüyün and Tuğrul Tanyol. His subsequent books include the poetry collection “Aort” (2016) and the novella “Hiç Kimseye Yolculuk” (2023). Beginning in 2001, his poems appeared in numerous literary magazines over the following years. He also wrote columns for Sarıyer Gazetesi. Across his work in different artistic disciplines, poetry has remained the connecting thread. With NKBY, he carries it into contemporary nightlife and onto the dance floor. This is a rebellion on two fronts: against the notion that entertainment must be without depth, and against conventions that confine poetry to stillness. Born from the idea of “a poet on the dance floor,” NKBY brings Turkish poetic lyrics into melodic electronic music. In the world he calls “rhythmic melancholy,” melancholy and euphoria coexist within the same rhythm—not as opposites to be resolved, but as feelings to be lived together. NKBY is not a departure from Ulaş Nikbay’s literary identity, but its continuation in electronic music.
