Muhammad Umar Akhtar
Filmmaker, Editor, and Photographer in Karachi
I grew up with a camera in one hand and a sketchbook in the other. I didn’t always know where this mix would take me, but I knew I wanted to create. Tell stories. Show things people don't usually see.
My journey into filmmaking really began in the quiet, often overlooked corners of Pakistan places where life is tough, but stories are rich. I started documenting underprivileged students in Thar, women finding strength in remote areas, and even stray animals just trying to survive. No big crews, no fancy budgets just a camera, a mission, and a lot of heart.
As time went on, I found myself moving between worlds from grassroots documentaries to branded content and web series. Whether it was working with international NGOs or creating visual stories for socially conscious brands, I tried to carry the same energy into every frame: make it mean something.
I co-founded Blackwolf Films to chase that idea further a space to create raw, honest, visual work. I’ve been a cinematographer, director, producer, and sometimes all three at once. I’ve also worked on narrative web series, and led projects tackling themes like overpopulation and education reform. Along the way, I picked up commercial gigs too food, lifestyle, health learning how to balance impact and creativity.
These days, I’m also teaching film students, sharing what I’ve learned (and still learning), one story at a time.
This isn’t a polished story it’s still being written. But if you’re reading this, maybe you're part of it too.
Still chasing frames, still chasing meaning.
That’s all for today — see you in the next episode #HappyFilming
