When you are new to contracting, many would advise you to find an umbrella company. What an umbrella company is after all- would be the only question coming to your mind at that time.

An umbrella company provides you payroll services by employing you. The nature of your employment will be strictly of an overarching contractor of employment. The company will raise all your invoices and free you from setting up a private company or hiring an accountant.

The company will make payments to you according to your invoices after receiving funds from your agency or clients. The company will also deduct necessary and appropriate tax, national insurance and manage allowable expenses, all at the same time.

An umbrella company necessarily uses a PAYE system to make you payments. The company will provide you a payslip just as you will get with any other kind of employment.

As a contractor, you will have many problems from the taxman and other areas affecting contracting. With an umbrella company, you will not have to worry about IR35 or anything else that makes regular contractors go mad.

All the umbrella companies have to follow the instructions and show compliance to HMRC since it regulates these companies. HMRC wants these companies to make all the payments through a PAYE system.
