Noodle boards are a traditional way people would make noodles, but today, we use them as stove toppers to cover up that mess left behind by cooking and keeps extra food from dropping onto your cook-top. The noodle board sat on top of the stove and once the pasta dough was made and cut to size, the noodles would be laid on the noodle board to dry out. Obviously, if you are using a noodle board or stovetop cover for things like making pasta or pie dough, you'll want to use a hardwood like maple, but you'll also want to use a food safe finish on the wood.
