Uncivil Liberties

NYC

50 year old beach bum and former paramedic who is increasingly concerned with the erosion of our civil liberties in this uncertain time. Must America be strong and secure? Definitely. Must we suffer the loss of the rights guaranteed us by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in the process? I am not convinced of that requirement.

I was present at Ground Zero for a week, helping those on the pile and picking up body parts and bringing them to the temporary morgue at 140 Broadway. (That was pretty much the only place to get a hot cup of coffee at that time, too.)

When I went online into an AOL chatroom and shared that I didn't see nuclear weapons as a response option I was hounded out of the room for being un-American and unpatriotic. Yet, I was the one who had been picking up the pieces and breathing the fumes and supporting those on the pile. Something wasn't right.

Not a legal expert, not a government whistleblower, not much of a geek, just a concerned citizen worried about privacy and security in post-9/11 America
