Musician, Producer, and Audio Engineer in Sydney, Australia
My name is Andrés Correal, I'm from Bogotá-Colombia. My interest in music started since I was very little. I started taking piano lessons when I was 9. Then I began to grow interest in rock music, so I decided to stop the piano lessons and take guitar lessons instead. In school I took music lessons as well, but the instrument was the flute. When I finished school, I decided to take a different path from music (big mistake) and enrolled in a bachelor of law for 1 year in Bogotá. Then I realized that music was my favourite thing in the world so I started a bachelor of music in Bogotá as well for 2 years. Then an opportunity came to me and I came to Brisbane to study a bachelor of audio, which is my very first interest in the music area. Also I want to return to Bogotá to finish the Bachelor I started there.
From the beginning of my musical life, I was interested in popular Anglo music, which is not in my mother tongue, but getting back the Latin sounds. Bands such as Helmet, Franz Ferdinand, Guns and Roses, Good Charlotte, Depeche Mode were the first Anglo music I heard in the soundtrack of various video games in the early 2000s. Then I started to grow in the hard rock and heavy metal riffs such as Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and finally I reached a level I though I will never get. Death metal. Super heavy sounds and lyrics of bands like Cannibal Corpse were flowing through my ears until my 20th birthday. However, this doesn't mean that I didn't listen to other genres, but all of them were prior in my playlists.
Then I really got back to the roots and started listening 80s Synth Pop like Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and lots of Indie Rock, specially Editors. But now that I'm in Australia, and Anglo speaking country, I'm listening to a lot of Colombian and Latin artist such as Cabas, Juanes, Aleks Syntek, Bajofondo, which is a really nice Tango-electronic Argentinian band, and more. So, how I said, I'm really opened minded in terms of music.
I also enjoy watching a lot of movies; in fact, I want to be a composer for soundtrack in film and TV, or video games, which is also an interesting hobby of mine.
As a music student, during all this years of listening different genres of music, learning musical theory and learning sound technology, I have developed lots of skills that make my life and my work easy. Musical software (Pro tools, Logic), music history, and great technics with the guitar and piano, which are the two most dedicated instruments I play.
