Keanna N. Houston

There is very little this 28 year old hasn't been able to accomplish thus far. Born in Springfield, MA and raised in the DC Metro Area, Keanna N. Houston is taking on the world in her own way. Her curiosity and love of poetry began at the early age of 10 during her summer visits to Springfield, MA to visit her grandparents. It was during this time she developed her "unique" style of writing. Her passion for writing continued throughout the years.

In 2001, while attending Alabama A&M University (AAMU), Keanna joined the AAMU Poetry Club and was affectionately given the name "Uneek" for her unique writing style by members of her Poetry Club (PC) Family. It was at that time Uneek Poetry was birthed. During her time with the Poetry Club she began speaking at Open Mic Nights and held several offices within the Poetry Club developing not only her writing skills but also her leadership abilities. Her time with the Poetry Club was one of the most influential periods in her writing career.

Academically she holds a B.S. in Business Management from Alabama A&M; University and an M.B.A in Finance from Walden University. Professionally she serves as a federal contracting officer for the Defense Logistics Agency and has DAWIA certification in both Contracting and Program Management as well as is a member of the Acquisition Corps.

Keanna resides in the Washington DC Metro area with her husband Kevin J. Houston and two children Alexis and Victoria. She credits her husband Kevin as the most influential part in publishing her book and feels that without his support she may have never published her work. Simple Complexity: A Uneek Reflection of Love was officially released into the public for sale in March 2007. Keanna has been quoted saying “I never thought I would ever publish my poetry because I thought it was too ‘REAL’ for people to handle. I am so very happy I did. If my work touches at least one person or one person can relate to something I wrote and if it helps them in some way, then I have done my job."
