I’m Ugo. I’m a teacher living in South Africa. I have a PhD in Anatomy from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and currently employed as Anatomy Lecturer in the School of Anatomical Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University), South Africa. I teach gross anatomy at Wits University at the graduate entry medical program (GEMP) to year 4 and year 3 students and physiotherapy and occupational therapy students. I am a course coordinator of ANAT2033 and ANAT2030 which is a module offered by physiotherapy and occupational therapy students. Previously, I was employed as Anatomy Lecturer at the University of Limpopo, School of Medicine, South Africa from 2018-2022 where I also teach gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, embryology, and histology. I have worked as a laboratory teaching assistant at the University of Kwazulu Natal, Durban South Africa. My current research drive is primarily in the field of tumour biology. I employ multidisciplinary approaches such as applied histology, cell biology and molecular biology to unravel the pathophysiology of tumour progression. Using some techniques like polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and western blots analysis, I attempt to selectively identify specific DNA and RNA sequences and proteins to delineate the complexities of tumour progression. Additionally, given the rise of detectable tumours in extant populations, my training in Anatomy has stood me in good stead, to assist in understanding the presence of tumours in hominin samples. My experience has afforded me the opportunity to partake in other multidisciplinary research like male infertility, diabetes, and neurodegeneration. My research goal is to garner insights into elucidating new ways that can generate translational windows into new therapeutic opportunities.
