Uzair Hashmi

At the age of 13, after chairing Nottingham City' first Youth Bank funded, extended schools project, Uzair discovered an interest in working with young people.

Uzair went on to become the youngest member of Nottingham's Youth Cabinet and has since been involved in a vast array of youth consultations and youth led projects including the devlopment of the Youth Strategy for the city as well as contributing to the newly elected police and crime commisioners plan.

It is from these engagements with young people that led to Uzair becoming Chair of the Nottingham City Youth Cabinet at age 16. He further went on to become one of only two elected Members of Youth Parliament for the city and successfuly represented Nottingham's interest in STEM and concern of youth unemployment at the annual House of Commons sitting.

A keen traveller, he often tells a proud tale of his 2 week young enterprise work with a township school in South Africa in which he and a team of 8 young people, working alongside Toshiba and XMA, experienced the enthusiasm and tenacity of over 200 children.

To this day, Uzair describes his most recent visit to Bosnia with the interfaith council as his most eye opening experience, and how he saw what impact a lost generation has had upon the country.

Currently completeing his A-levels, Uzair intends to study Law with poltics at university, with a hope to provide the same opportunities that he had, for more young people.
