V.A. Cancio
A child of Veradero, Cuba, I arrived in the U.S. in the eighties on Mariel and spent my early years in Miami as a dancer and percussionist in the Afro Cuban Dance Company. My family background and my compassion for human suffering drove me to the top of the medical science field. In 1988 intul 1995 I was one of the founders for Vitas hospice AIDS team. I worked as a nursing assistant for one year and I got promoted as a bereavement counselor / volunteer coordinator. in 1995 I went back to school National School of Technology and graduate as a surgical Scrub Tech/ first Assistan. I have worked for the nation's most renown surgeons as Scrub Tech/1st Assistant including Dr. Barth Green, and Dr. Frank Eismont of University of Miami Neuro Spine Institute. Cranio Facial Surgeries and reconstructive surgery with Dr. Anthony Wolfe @ Miami Children's Hospital and Cedars Hospital. Also well known cosmetic reconstructive and plastic surgeons like Dr. Carlos L Wolf, Dr. Alan Serure, Dr. Felix Rodriguez, Dr. Ramon J. Rodriguez, Dr Enrique Viciana, Plastic & Hand Surgeon - Dr. Ronaldo Carneiro and Dr. Mikaloff - Plastic & Hand Surgeon for the Florida Panthers. I am the daughter of renown Cuban Quartet Los Zafiros singer Miguel Cancio and Bolero singer Monica Leticia Morua Ruiz. Also the proud niece of the Morua singers known throughout the world and the granddaughter of Dr. Leoncio Morua Contrera. M.D. – a leading Cuban Cardiologist Surgeon and Composer.
