Hello! My name is Valarie, and I would just like to share with you a little bit about myself and the high school project that inspired this website. I’m fourteen years old and have been a proud homeschooler my entire life. This all started around two years ago when I became an AKC Junior Handler. I would take my two dogs (Rue and Diego) to shows around Texas and I loved every second of it; but I found that one of my most favorite parts was before the show ever began. The grooming.

Around that same time, my neighbor came to me asking if I would groom her dog for her. That of course, made me ecstatic and I agreed with haste. I didn’t have much in the way of equipment at the time, only a couple pairs of scissors, a standard hair dryer, and a few brushes. The dog was a wonderful golden retriever named Liberty, and I spent the whole day before I groomed her watching YouTube videos on grooming and bathing. The next day, Liberty ( being the wonderful dog she is) took it easy on me while I ended up taking five hours to meticulously cut each hair and nail, trying, hoping, praying, that I wouldn’t mess up.

It turns out that I had nothing to worry about! My neighbor was very pleased with the job I did, and has brought Liberty back to me each month for her regular grooming. Grooming Liberty along with my own dogs has become easier and easier each time (now only taking me one hour, two hours tops) to groom. Slowly I began acquiring more of the grooming tools required, a table, a power dryer, and a few other necessities. Then thanks to my absolutely wonderful friend and neighbor Mrs. Linda (who’s more like family to me) who showed Liberty off and spread my name around the neighborhood, more people began brining their “bed-headed” companions to me for pampering.

Now, as I am starting high school my wonderful mother came up with the idea of a high school project! She helped me to convince my Dad to clear off a space in the garage for me to work (thanks Mom), and has been helping me to get this project off the ground. My goal is to have a full-fledged business up and running by the time I graduate! So far I am working on becoming a certified groomer and am gathering as much equipment as possible. Also thanks to my awesome sister Melanie who was the one who figured out how to get the website started, and a sweet friend named Gay for making my logo and business cards, I have a wonderful way to spread the word about my project/business.
