Val Carney

I am a Leo Tiger. Leo on the Zodiac and Tiger on the Chinese calendar. I tend to have classic Leo Tiger traits like leadership and creativity although I am not always sure of myself. I tend to teach with ease and working with children comes naturally...maybe because I myself am a bona fide overgrown 10-year-old. I like toys, building toys in particular, playing in the sand, jumping in puddles, and the concept of living in tiny houses...I avoid things that are overwhelming, all of which are characteristic of my childish tendencies. I am sometimes funny and witty and observant and almost always opinionated. I tend to be brutally honest and it often gets me in trouble. I seem to insert my feet in my mouth whenever possible although I am trying to reign that negative trait in a bit. I was born and raised on Long Island, NY but have lived in North Carolina for over 20 years. That makes me neither Northern nor Southern and since I am an Asheville, NC local, I fit right in since no one who lives here is from here. I am mom to my almost 13-year-old slightly neurotic black lab mix named Jake. He goes everywhere with me and freaks out when he can't. For over a year we have lived in my vehicle, currently a minivan, mostly by choice and since an injury has kept me from my job at a Starbucks, we spend ridiculous amounts of time people-watching at the local dog park and a different Starbucks. I am a little bit good at a lot of things and so I avoid labeling myself anything if I can help it.
