Valencia Richardson
Shrevport, La. to Baton Rouge, La.
I am Valencia Richardson and my favorite candy is Reese’s Pieces. Most importantly, my favorite movie is The Breakfast Club—it changed my life—and my favorite musician/spirit animal is Beyoncé. I was raised a Louisiana girl, and I consider myself cheaper by the dozen because my sibling count is at twelve. I hope that one day every child will own at least one pair of shoes and I am on a constant pursuit to figure out the answer to the ever-present question of “why.” And if I could describe myself in one sentence, it would be:
I am very bad at describing myself.
The way I feel, describing myself is almost impossible because I’ve barely had time to get to know myself. In the eighteen years that I’ve been alive, I have only come to know a few things about myself—I am smart, independent, opinionated, and pretty clever— but most of those things I consider inconsequential to who I really am. Instead, I like to think of myself in relation to what I like, what I’ve done and what difference I have made, allowing my real description to be interpreted from that.
I see no meaning in my life if I don’t spend it trying to help others in some type of way. That thought is how I chose my major, political communication, and my dream is to do advocacy work for non profits. I believe that is the only truly important quality out of all the traits I could possibly list off.
I am Valencia Richardson and I wish to be a person of meaning.
