Valentina Margaria
Aerial yoga teacher in Staefa
Hello, I’m Valentina. I’m an Aerial yoga teacher living in Staefa. A methodical scientist and idealist with head in the clouds at the same time, I have always strived for a balance between mind and spirit, discipline and freedom. For many years my passion were African expression dance and Iyengar yoga, the two practices together fulfilled my need for control and improvisation. When I first tried the hammock, I recognised I had found my dimension. As counterintuitive as it may seem, being suspended upside down is the best way to find balance.
Aerial Yoga combines traditional asanas (the physical postures of yoga) and yoga philosophies with aerial arts. Silk fabrics are hung from above to help practitioners form shapes, work on balance and strength, or to be completely suspended upside down. During practice it is possible to awaken one's inner child, overcome fears and improve one's mood. moreover, the benefits at the musculoskeletal level are numerous, in particular, in the upside-down positions it is possible to fully stretch the spine, getting rid of tension. It is not easy to summarize all the benefits of Aerial Yoga in few sentences, however, based on my direct experience I can affirm that the practice relieves from spinal and neck pain, stimulates the circulatory system, the endocrine system and internal organs. This deep stimulation leads to greater physiological balance that is reflected in lower levels of stress, anxiety and insomnia.
What to expect from a lesson with me:
The lessons are designed for a beginner level, and the difficulty will evolve throughout the year according to the needs of the group.
We will work on different aspects including balancing, building strength, overcoming any fear of hanging upside down, and add a dash of fun with transitions in the air.
Usually, the sequence is built according to the peak position, to prepare the body to enter the asana consciously.
Finally, we will close the class with suspended Savasana, to assimilate and root the new experience in our bodies. .
