Shawn Valentine

My name is Shawn, but that does not really begin to say anything about me. If I had to choose three things to associate myself with, I would go with North Carolinian, hardcore Michael Jackson fan, and follower of Jesus Christ. I choose these things, because in some way or another they make up a very large part of who I am.

1) I choose to identify as a North Carolinian, because that is my home. North Carolina is where I grew up, it is where my family is, and when I picture retiring with my wife, it is right back in small town North Carolina.

2) I choose to identify as a massive Michael Jackson fan, because I have ears… And Michael Jackson is a huge part of my childhood. I grew up being a massive fan of his music. My favorite song is an MJ song. The love of Michael Jackson’s music is also a huge part of how I bonded with my dad. We love MJ. Before his death we had tickets to a concert in London to see him do the “Smooth Criminal Lean” in person.

3) The most important thing that I identify as is a Christian. I feel that this makes up the majority of who I am, in fact I think in some ways it is everything that I am (or should be). I became a Christian during my senior year of college about 5 months before I came to the University of Georgia and my life has been so different. Without my relationship with God, I have no idea where I would be. I cannot imagine continuing on the course I was on in high school, while being in college. The results could have been disastrous but, I did find truth in Jesus and now “believer” is how I identify.
