Valeria DeCastro

Brazilian musician, choreographer, director, actress and dance performer. In 1978 Valeria started her studies in guitar with Mestre Gamela and composition with the composer Emilio Terraza at the University of Brasilia, Brazil. In 1984, Valeria met Maura Baiocchi, creator of the taanteatro approach to the performing arts and joined the Contemporary Dance Company “Weird Body” directed by Mrs. Baiocchi. Valeria’s improvisational performance work is a fusion of music, movement and acting elements. Other than Brazil and the US, Valeria has performed in Italy, Spain, and Costa Rica. Valeria teaches music for children and is the center director for Bloomington Music Together.

2011 – Wild Things - Directed the children’s musical program for children age 8 – 12 at the Maple Bear Canadian School of Brasilia. Developed curriculum integrated program based on a story of Maurice Sendak “Where the Wild Things Are”. Worked In conjunction with teachers and volunteer parents to coordinate students work and create the “Wild Things” musical at the Maple Bear Canadian School of Brasilia, Brazil
