Valerie Ann West

Detroit, Michigan

I'm a digital storyteller, social justice advocate and outdoor enthusiast using strategy and collaboration to create engaging social media and website campaigns under tight deadlines.

I write compelling communications and use powerful design to strengthen brand awareness, currently at United Way for Southeastern Michigan.

Prior to that, I spent four years with The Oakland Press as the Community Engagement Editor.

My motto: Make the complex simple. I find inspiration in unexpected places. I'm an advocate for "Clifton StrengthsFinder 2.0", which pegged me: "Instinctively, I'm typically an eager and willing student, deriving satisfaction from examining new sources of information. I gravitate to serious conversations where people exchange ideas, concepts or theories. By nature, I am fascinated with the printed word. Books, magazines, newspapers, correspondence, or Internet sites intrigue me. Seldom am I speechless."

Basically, I read a lot. Learn a lot. And do a lot. I am interested in sustainable living, design, leadership, female empowerment and innovation across sectors. Success = teamwork!

I look for meaningful work and engagement opportunities. Have a project and want to connect? Send me a message.
