San Diego, California, United States

Valerie Cortez is a full-time Journalism student at San Diego State University.

Born and raised in San Diego County, Valerie has created a name for herself throughout her community as a self-starter with a passionate personality.

Her interest in journalism began early on in her attendance at Escondido High School, where she served as the Editor-in-Chief of The Cougar.

After two and a half years of dedicated hard work at Palomar College, and working part-time for the CIty of Escondido, Valerie was accepted to San Diego State University, where she declared the major of Journalism with an emphasis in Media Studies.

Realizing her passion for social media and marketing, Valerie worked to kick-start a social media presence for the Lakes Department for the City of Escondido. She now handles press releases, contacts, social media for the lakes, and general marketing for the department.

Creating relationships within the city proved successful for Valerie, as other departments reached out seeking her help and services. Valerie currently is an Intern for the Tourism and Marketing Department for the City of Escondido.

Valerie spends her free time attempting to pet any animal that will let her, watching rom-coms, and practicing in her head what she would do in scenarios similar to those featured on the show, “What Would You Do?”
