Born on July 19, 1961. PhD, Professor.
President of the Academy of Ukrainian Press since April 2001.
He is the author of Ukraine’s first textbook on Journalistic Ethics (2006), co-authored with Volodymyr Serdiuk, and of the manual Practicum in Journalistic Ethics (2012), co-authored with Serhii Shturkhetskyi.
A former member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) and the Commission on Journalistic Ethics (until 2013).
Since 1999, he has served as the Head of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at the Institute of Journalism, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
Achievements
Valeriy Ivanov is a professor, Doctor of Philology, and Head of the Department of Mass Communication Organization (later renamed Department of Advertising and Public Relations) at the Institute of Journalism, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv since 1999.
He is also President of the Center for Free Press; member of the Commission on Journalistic Ethics; First Vice President of the All-Ukrainian Charitable Foundation "Journalistic Initiative"; member of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA); President of the Academy of Ukrainian Press; and Deputy Chair of the Educational and Methodological Commission on Journalism at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Since 2024, he has served on the Public Council under the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech.
In 1992, Ivanov was awarded the Gold Medal of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for winning the national young scientists’ competition.
