Valori Lyles

San Pedro, Costa Rica

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Valori Lyles began her higher-level education at California State University, but soon transferred to Howard University in Washington D.C. She graduated Howard University with a Bachelor of the Arts in Communication and went on to begin a career in selling radio advertising in the LA/San Diego areas. She became involved in the field of education through a volunteer program at San Diego state that offered tutoring to teenage girls on weekends. This experience motivated Valori to seek out a job in the schooling system, and she began working for the LA Unified School District, in Public Information. During her time at this position, she was chosen to lead an outreach program for youths at risk. From here, Valori went on to pursue a Masters degree in Behavioral Science with an emphasis on conflict resolution and negotiation, which she ultimately received from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

After receiving her Masters, Lyles took the LSAT examination for admittance to Law School and due to her high score on the exam, she was awarded a Merit Scholarship. While attending Law School at Mercer University in Georgia, Valori Lyles co-founded a youth diversion program in conjunction with the Juvenile Court System and the Department of Family and Children’s services, which offered opportunities for rehabilitation and training for first-time, non-violent youth offenders.

Lyles graduated law school, receiving her J.D., and began working for the city and county government in Georgia within the departments of employment discrimination and small-business promotion. She then switched her profession to teaching in order to afford more time to pursue her love of travel. Valori taught language arts in public schools for ten years, and currently lives in San Pedro, San Juan Costa Rica, where she is continuing her educational pursuits in studying the Spanish Language and the local culture. Valori’s ultimate goal is to combine her backgrounds in language, law and education to benefit the African American and Hispanic populations in the U.S. In her spare time, Valori enjoys reading, writing articles on topics of her interest, cinema and music.
