CSS International was founded in October 1945, just one short month aftethe end of World War II, by three individuals who had worked together at company supporting the war effort. Feeling the optimism and seeing the opportunity in the post-war economy, Herbert V. Coulston, Fred G. Shutz and Harry F. Speth (whose last name initials combined respectively as C - S -S) purchased a defunct 10,000-square-foot manufacturing business and started a tool and die company focused on producing metal products for a rapidly growing marketplace.
