Matthijs van der Wel

I am a passionate IT Security and Incident Response Manager, with over 10 years of experience in investigating international data breaches and cybercrime. I am also experienced in sales, consultancy and delivery of state secret level IT security projects.

With a business background, IT security technical and investigative mindset, I have worked in an international environment for over 7 years. Current and former clients include many of the Fortune 500 companies, some of the world largest financial institutions and various government agencies around the globe.

I am a strong builder and fortunate to have been tasked four times to build up a new international practice in both service and product delivery, realizing an annual turnover of over $2M in direct revenue and an annual pull through of over $20M with a strong team of 6 investigators.

My work has always required frequent international travel and a flexible approach to work hours. I have a no nonsense mentality and I'm very result driven. With an international executive MBA from Nyenrode Business University, I am experienced in discussing deep technical and security issues with the C-suite.

I'm a very eloquent public speaker, having spoken on many large conferences, seminars and I've been an expert in many live radio and television shows. I've been interviewed by many international newspapers on cyber crime, cyber terrorism and information security.

I'm a people manager who truly enjoys working with professionals. I try to stay away from micro management as much as possible, and make sure there's always a clear chain of command in place. I value the true power of diversity and I'm open to exploring new ways and methods of achieving better and more efficient results.

Besides a Master and a Bachelors of Business Administration, I've been trained and have experience as an Expert Witness and I am a Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) and former QSA and PFI for the Payment Card Industry. Currently I am working on my Certified Fraud Examiner certification and my Arabic language skills.

Besides work, I'm a gadget junkie, Apple and sci-fi fanboy, love skiing, diving, playing golf and enjoying gourmet food.
