Vondolson Mapp, BSc Hons, MCIAT, ICIOB

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

University of Bolton graduate, Vondolson Mapp, has become the first Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technology (MCIAT) in his home country, St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Vondolson joined the University from the tiny Caribbean island in 2008 and was awarded his membership just one year after graduating with a first-class degree in Architectural Technology in 2011.

Speaking about his new MCIAT title, Vondolson said: 'As a Chartered Architectural Technologist, I will be specialising in the science and technology of architecture, building design and construction.

'Becoming a member will allow me to set up my own practice and provide a full architectural design service to the public.'

In gaining his membership, Vondolson had to successfully complete the Chartered Architectural Technologist Professional and Occupational Performance (POP) Record. He then had to pass a professional practice interview.

Vondolson is no stranger to success after achieving a Chartered Institute of Building Certificate of Excellence at his graduation. He paid tribute to the University and in particular the staff from the Faculty of Advanced Engineering and Sciences.

He said: 'I was very impressed with the professors at the University and as result, I was able to recommend the University of Bolton to students in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

'The knowledge I have gained from my course has enabled me to implement various green designs and techniques on the projects I have worked on. Furthermore I believe this knowledge was responsible for my successful interview.'

Having designed numerous projects in St Vincent and the Grenadines and using his skills in various commercial and domestic projects for companies such as MA John & Associates, Vondolson isn't going to take a break anytime soon.

Currently working towards becoming a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building, he has also begun reading towards his PhD.

Vondolson's ultimate aim is to become a consultant within the construction industry and help his country during natural disasters. He said: 'My aim is to help in areas of building regulations and codes, green design and technology and to promote the need for team working within the Caribbean. Most construction professionals focus on the profit and not the project success.
