Vanessa is an advocate for the education and development of African youth and remains active in the pursuit of knowledge to address the challenge of educational inequality in Africa.
She is committed to working in higher education because she enjoys the opportunities the field presents in helping her to provide support for others to grow and make an impact in the world.
In her current role as the Assistant Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at her alma mater, Ashesi University, Vanessa works to secure equitable educational opportunities for all students while training and equipping them with the essential skills to live and work in an increasingly diverse world. She is also responsible for designing, executing, monitoring and evaluating programs for students, faculty and staff, to foster a more cohesive and inclusive campus environment.
She previously worked as Content Coordinator responsible for planning and executing content and marketing strategy for Academic City College, Teaching and Research Assistant at Ashesi University, and Editor-in-Chief at siro360 (an online platform dedicated to telling stories about Africa from the perspectives of Africans).
Vanessa holds an M.A. (distinction) in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and a BSc. (honors) in Business Administration from Ashesi University.
When she is not working, you will find her writing creative fiction and non-fiction pieces for her blog, coaching and mentoring young people, or conducting research (in diversity, equity, and inclusion, inclusive global education, refugee and forced migration, youth education in Africa, and gender equality).
