Vanessa Moodley

Durban, South Africa

My love affair with the written word began at the age of 4, when my mother taught me to read using hundreds of flashcards of words she kept in a blue plastic bag.

By 5 I expected books for my birthday; by 6, I knew I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. By 10 I'd exhausted the children's section of our local library; by 13 I was given an honorary adult membership card to raid the 'grown-up' section instead.

It's safe to say that words, books and creativity are the life ink that runs through my veins – whether expressed in my education, my work as a copywriter and proofreader in the advertising industry, or even now as an office manager and project coordinator for an exciting local not-for-profit youth organisation.

My life revolves around expressions of creativity, which I see equally at play in my ability to identify and organise important information (as in the development and maintenance of a written Quality Management manual - I love putting words in their place!), as in my personal writing, blogging and work as a contributing writer to local entertainment and lifestyle sites.

It's not all lines and order though! On weekends, I work as a balloon twister and face painter – a job I love as it allows me to express my creativity in a more visual way while bringing smiles to little (and not so little!) faces.

My aim in life is to always be learning, and to use my abilities to positively impact the lives of others. I believe passionately in human rights, with a special interest in the rights of women, children and minorities. I have a naturally inquiring mind about people and how things work, and believe that empathy and critical thinking will help us make the world a better place.

If you have a project you'd like to collaborate on with me, or think I could be of assistance to your business, contact me through this page, my blog, or linkedin.
