Dream Job- My dream career is criminal profiling. Criminal profiling is the mix of criminology and psychology. Criminal profiling is a technique used to identify the perpetrator of a violent crime by identifying the personality and behavioral characteristics of the offender based upon an analysis of the crime committed.

Why Does This Career Interest Me-I've always been very interested in both the mind and true crime, so criminal profiling is a perfect mix of both.

Education Requirements-This career requires a Bachelor's in psychology, criminal justice, forensics and behavioral science, at minimum. Master's or doctorate degree in criminal justice.

Average Salary-The average annual salary for criminal profiling in Nevada is about $81,438.

Important Skills:

  • Good communication skills; Criminal profiling involves a lot of team work. Without communication skills, this makes the job harder for everyone.
  • Excellent analytical skills; As a profiler you must be able to analyze cases based off as little information you are given.
  • Critical thinking abilities; Critical thinking is important to accurately make profiles.
  • Listening skills- To truly take in everything to do with a criminal case, you have to listen to what others have to say. Others perspectives on the suspects is also very important in this job.
  • Patients; Though it's important to bring people justice, it's equally as important to be patient. Some cases will be slow, so you can't expect to have all the answers straight away.
