Vanessa Freeman

San Antonio, Texas

I graduated from the University of Texas of San Antonio with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and a minor in Business Administration. As a student I was very involved with campus life as well as strengthening my professional skills.

I began my journalism career in 2010 as an intern at a local radio station, KWED. As an intern I was able to package my own radio broadcasts and write stories for the daily newspaper. This experience allowed my passion for broadcasting to thrive. I discovered that broadcasting wasn’t only something that I loved doing, but something that could change lives.

Yearning to get as much experience as possible, I went on to do three additional internships in the communications field during my undergrad. I have always been social media savvy, and I was able to use those skills to build social media cites for local companies. Eventually, I was able to use my writing skills to write news content for the website of a radio station. It was very exciting to be able to write stories ranging from UTSA sports updates to celebrity gossip for viewers to read.

A huge turning point for me was when I landed my most recent internship as a news intern at KABB Fox. I dedicated my final year in college to learning how to be an excellent Multi-Media Journalist. In the future I hope to kick-off my career as a reporter, and eventually become an anchor in a large market.
