Varun Hemachandran leads the OpenNyAI mission at Agami, where he explores how artificial intelligence and frontier technologies can dramatically scale access to justice for over 1.4 billion Indians. Since joining Agami in 2019, Varun has been an integral part of the organisation’s mission to transform the justice ecosystem in India. Agami, a non-profit organization, curates and supports justice changemakers (justicemakers) by fostering trust, nurturing shared purpose, and enabling impactful connections between people and ideas.

Before Agami, Varun co-founded Talking Earth, a non-profit organization dedicated to building community capacity to generate and leverage environmental data for protecting fragile urban ecosystems. He also led the work at The Bohemian House, where he built a global community of artists, fostered a business model centered on sustainable livelihoods for artists, and acted as a catalyst for interdisciplinary collaboration by bringing together diverse domains and disciplines through art.

Earlier in his career, Varun spent a decade in the marketing and advertising industry, gaining expertise in strategy, communication, and storytelling, which continues to inform his work at the intersection of technology, community, and deep social transformation.
