Zerin Knight
Bendigo, Victoria
In my personal life, I'm passionate about the right to life of all sentient beings - so I'm a vegan. I'm passionate about social justice, the environment - hence my choice to eliminate animals and animal products from my diet (these industries do more damage to the environment than all cars, trucks, planes, ships and trains combined). I am a Be the Change facilitator dedicated to having conversations and being in action to bring about an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just world in which to live. (See www.changingthe dream.org.au). In my professional life, I recently left my position as the media liaison officer for La Trobe University, Bendigo campus. I have had the good fortune to work with a terrific group of people in the Bendigo media. The next exciting phase of my life includes fulfilling my long-held desire to write a book, volunteer work for animal rescue organisations - in particular, Edgar's Mission - growing as much of my own food as I can and a bit of freelance work in the marketing communications and public relations field. Oh, and spending time with my 10 rescued hens, cat, Toby Wan Kenobi and dog, Tessie, both of whom are rescues. The hens all have names too: Dame Margot Fonteyn, Ingrid Bergman, Marilyn Monroe, Penny, Audrey Hepburn, Lucy Liu, Ebony and the most recent arrivals at Zerin's Chook Retirement Resort, the Dixie Chicks, aka Natalie, Martie and Emily. I love them all.
