Treating Unsightly Varicose Veins

Many people suffer from varicose veins. This is usually noticed when a person has bluish markings on the backs of the legs. Varicose veins are caused when blood pools up in the circulatory system due to faulty valves within the veins themselves. If these valves do not work properly, the blood will continue to collect in one area, causing the veins to swell and push up against the skin where it becomes noticeable. varicose veins treatment can cause discomfort and in severe cases, pain.

There are several steps that can be taken to stop varicose veins from occurring. When someone is heavy, their weight will contribute to the slowing down of blood circulating within the body due to the pressure of the weight on the veins. It is a good idea to try to lose weight to help ward off varicose veins and other health risks. Wearing special circulatory socks can help keep the blood from pooling. These socks promote good circulation. Wearing high heels can cause varicose veins as well, so it is best to avoid wearing these shoes regularly.

When varicose veins are already present, the person who has them may wish to have their appearance diminish. There are some procedures that can be done at a doctor's office to help remove damaged veins or promote better circulation in existing ones.

One vein treatment option available is sclerotherapy. This is done by injecting a solution into affected veins so they collapse and are no longer functioning in the body. Stronger veins will take over with the circulation of blood and the deteriorated veins will close up completely. They are still present within the body but are no longer used for blood circulation. Wearing compression stockings afterwards will clear up any coloring these veins had, making the skin clear up as well.

Another treatment option is to have surgery. A surgeon would remove any veins with valve troubles from the body. This is done through ligation and stripping or through a phlebectomy procedure. Ligation involves tying the veins so they will no longer function. Some portions would be left in the body while others are removed using a surgical tool through an incision. A phlebctomy is simply the removal of the affected veins altogethe
