Venika Hagans

I am a 34 year old woman from Tarboro N.C. I graduated from Tarboro High School in 1998. I have an eight year old son who motivated me to go back to school to higher my education. While in high school we took Early childhood courses and we went out into the local schools and worked with the children and I enjoyed every minute of it and that is what made me decide to go into the Early Childhood field.

I went to Edgecombe Community in 1998 right after graduating high school to pursue my career in Early Childhood which took two years to complete, I earned my Associates Degree. A year after I was hired with N.E.E.D. Inc in January 2003 where I am still currently employed as a Teacher. With this job I am able to do daily lesson plans and plan activities for children ages three-five.

In 2010 I was presented with the opportunity to go back to school at NCCU to earn my degree in Family and Consumer Science. While going to school I have had a few stumbling blocks in the way, but yet I am determined to finish next year. If all goes like I want it to in maybe a year or two I would like to go back to school to earn my Master's Degree. In five years I would like to open a afterschool program in my area that is something that I feel my community could benefit from.
