As an educator, founder of the Celebration of America’s Young Heroes program & award winning author, Ms. Vera Ripp Hirschhorn’s mission has been to help parents, teachers, community members and youngsters encourage, educate and empower students to learn compassion, self respect and respect for diversity in order to prevent bullying & school violence. She has been honored in 2011 and 2012 in U.S. Congressman Ted Deutch’s congratulatory speech before the 112th Congress in the Congressional Record for her advocacy in promoting a ‘climate of acceptance and respect’ in our schools.

F.A.U.’s Associate Professor, College of Education, Dr. Susannah Brown has included students’ award winning anti bullying solutions and excerpts from Ms. Hirschhorn’s, “Teens Are Heroes, Too! Challenges, Choices & Character” in her upcoming textbook for college students.

Ms. Hirschhorn is grateful to the School District of Palm Beach County, Board of County Commissioners and City of Boca Raton, Florida for proclamations which have recognized the America’s Young Heroes contest/programs.

The Florida State Association of the NLAPW honored Ms. Hirschhorn for her America’s Young Heroes anthologies: Book I on the Civil War (2001) and Book II, A Journal For You (2003). Book III, ‘Teens Are Heroes Too! Challenges, Choices &Character’ received the Florida Publishers Association’s President’s First Place Award in 2006 for the Best Young Adult Non-Fiction Book as well as NLAPW’s First Place Award in 2007.
