I'd like to start off by telling you about the person I'm sitting with in the photo to the right. That is my sister, Lillie, who has Down Syndrome. Lillie opened my eyes to the world of Special Needs. She and my other younger sister, Rowan are my inspiration! I am a better person because I am their big sister. They inspire and challenge me every day. They are the ones that made me realize I was meant to work with kids. And I do mean that wholeheartedly. Working with children is my passion.
It all started when I was attending Shoreline Community College. Like many people my age I didn't quite know what I wanted to do with my life. I found myself in an Early Childhood Education class and fell in love! I had thought I might end up being an elementary school teacher. Life had different plans for me! I found the world of Early Childhood Education and have been wrapped up in it ever since.
I got a job as an assistant teacher at a Montessori preschool. I was young and had little formal experience. They took a chance when they hired me but it sure payed off! I found the world of teaching to come naturally and be incredibly rewarding. I truly enjoyed getting up and going to work each day.
Since my first taste of teaching I haven't been able to stop. I had the amazing opportunity to home school Lillie and support her through a tricky part of her education. I then started working at Blossoming Buds Preschool as a Summer Camp Teacher, moving to Lead Teacher for the school year and now Head Teacher of the school.
While working all these wonderful jobs I have also been going to school. I have 2 Associate in Applied Arts and Science degrees. One in Special Education and one as a Paraeductor. I am currently working toward a bachelors degree in Children's Studies with a focus in programming and minor in Psychology.
Working in my chosen field while going to school has been a great experience. I get hands on training and experience while continuing my education. I am able to apply what I learn in school to what I'm doing in the classroom each day.
I know that my career is just staring and I truly look forward to where it will take me. I may not always be teaching in the classroom but I feel that I will always be a teacher and a life long learner.
