The idea of punishing a puppy makes no more sense compared to the idea of punishing a baby child. Have you ever heard of anyone spanking a baby? The only thing that could do is make the adult feel badly, and make the infant cry. A small child won't learn from punishment, and puppies are no different. Just like everything you do with a tiny baby is made to allow it feel beloved, protected and close to you, the way your treat a brand new pet can impact the way that dog views you for entire relationship.

The most you will do is scare it and make it wary of you, if you choose to punish a dog. If you smack a puppy, also lightly, all it knows may be the pain of the fear and the strike it feels at that time toward you. It doesnt learn that it was doing something wrong because its too young to understand that principle.

You punish it with a light touch, naturally, and if your pup is chewing on something as an example it will probably end what its doing. Its astonished and possibly feels pain from-the slap, and now feels quite frightened of you. It doesnt link the punishment in what it was performing, though, and has no way of predicting when it could be punished next.

If you use these punishments on the puppy, the puppy will learn to be frightened of you, or at the very least it'll learn that you may be mean. The pet mightn't trust you, because it doesnt understand why you scare it. Some puppies are very passive, and will respond to you in a very beaten way. Your puppy might stay in line on a regular basis, just from fear, however it wont ever trust you.
