I started using a personal computer in my teaching in 1979 and, since then, I have been committed to ensuring that all students have had access to the best possible tools to facilitate their learning. Innovative approaches to the integration of film, video, role play and performance characterised my teaching strategies.
As Principal of Cardijn College, I ensured that Cardijn would develop into an Information Technology-focussed school. During this time Cardijn became a regional focus school for IT, providing a range of services to regional Catholic school communities including IT support and internet service access.
After some time serving in the Catholic Education Office – SA, I changed careers and I now work as a consultant and account manager in the IT industry.
The integration of ICTs in the learning program of schools remains an abiding passion in my professional life. I believe in a strategic planning approach to the implementation of new technologies and in the importance of professional development programs that support how technology can help revolutionise pedagogy.
I firmly believe that professional development is a process, not an event.
