I started learning trombone when I was 10 years old, rehearsing and performing with numerous orchestras and brass bands in my teenage years.
I became interested in making my own music at a very early age using reel to reel tape recorders, and at school I found I had an aptitude for composition and harmony that fuelled my desire to learn piano.
Inspired by fellow music student Simon H Fell, I discovered modern composition and improvisation performing regularly with the Leeds Musicians’ Collective in the late 70s. Later taking up the guitar and being attracted to the punk and garage band scene my university friends, Jim, Ron and Brian formed the Dumbwaiters.
At Keele University I studied composition with Roger Marsh, Electronic Music and Recording Engineering with Tim Sousta, and specialised studying Ragtime with Professor Fulbright Hays.
In 80’s I played the pub circuit in London with numerous Pop, Rock and Soul bands mainly worked with the Hard Cash Horns brass quartet and later joining The Outskirts to tour in Europe and press some vinyl recordings.
At the beginning of home computing that I started exploring the potential of programming to create new music. I developed and published my own music software for the Commodore C64. I am now performing, composing, recording and producing music from my home based studio.
