Vichet Chhuon

Minneapolis, MN

Since 2009, I have been a faculty member in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. My research and teaching addresses the needs of immigrant and marginalized students, examines the relationships between educational institutions, families, and social context, and employs interdisciplinary frameworks to the study of education.

I was born in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime and emigrated to the US with my family as refugees in 1981. My 3 sisters and I are graduates of Los Angeles public schools. These experiences as an immigrant youth and student of color have shaped much of my research and teaching concerning race, identity, and disparities in education.

Prior to becoming a golden gopher, I taught at UCLA, Long Beach State, and the Los Angeles Unified School District.
