From birth, I already had a different background than the majority of my future peers. My father just immigrated from Guatemala to start his own business and my mother was a teacher in a small town. This identity was a blessing as I was given the chance to experience a lot of things that not everyone gets to experience. The first two years of my life I was constantly traveling and spending time with my family in Guatemala and also my family in the United States. I enjoyed every minute of it until it all came to a halt. My mother and father divorced when I was two before I could even understand what happened. As I grew up, my father noticeably became distant until the point where he wasn't there anymore. This part of my life has defined me as my mom, brother, and I have gone through life with nothing but each other.
