Victor Tapson

Victor Tapson, MD, serves as a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Tapson acts as the Director of the Duke Pulmonary Vascular Disease Center, which comprises five nurses, three physicians, and two staff assistants. Previously, he also functioned as the Medical Director of the Duke Lung Transplant Center, an initiative that he established together with Dr. Peter Van Trigt in 1990. Dr. Victor Tapson first came to Duke University in 1985 to complete his internship and residency after earning his Doctor of Medicine from Drexel University College of Medicine. For three years, he served as a Fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Boston University before returning to Duke to found the lung transplantation program and join the faculty.

Actively involved with his professional community, Dr. Victor Tapson has served on a number of national and international committees including the first and second American College of Chest Physicians Opinion Statements for Pulmonary Embolism. At present, he belongs to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association Scientific Leadership Committee and the American Thoracic Society Pulmonary Circulation Assembly, and he serves as the Co-Chair of the Thrombosis Advisory Committee.

Outside of work, Dr. Victor Tapson has involved himself with several support groups for pulmonary hypertension and has worked closely with the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, a charitable group that assists individuals struggling with the condition.
