Victoria Akiwumi
A member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Victoria A. Akiwumi has dedicated a significant portion of her career to studying teaching methods and creating innovative curricula. The founder of the Southeast Project for Social, Emotional and Educational Excellence (SEPSEE): A 21st Century Finishing School and Mandara 3WC (previously Mandarafit Enterprise), Ms. Akiwumi launched her career as a Program Director and English Language Arts Educator at the Frederick Douglass Academy in 1997. In this capacity, Victoria A. Akiwumi carried out a range of responsibilities, including coordinating district-wide computer training, serving as a Project Smart Schools Liaison, and implementing an intensive writing curriculum for students.
In 2001, Victoria A. Akiwumi joined the Oakland and San Francisco Unified School District, fulfilling the roles of Literacy Coach and Administrative Intern. Through these positions, she helped implement a number of key programs, including the 12 Steps to Reading Test Success, a curriculum for at-risk youth, and a workshop series for teachers and administrators. Moreover, she helped integrate several policies to promote diversity and mutual respect throughout the district. Victoria A. Akiwumi has held teaching positions at New Era Academy, Watkins Mill High School, and Cape Fear Community College.
Victoria A. Akiwumi continues to develop new teaching strategies. Through Mandara 3WC, she has been trained in the "What's Wrong with Difference" diversity curriculum, as well as a series of seminars and workshops over the last six years. Moreover, as the founder and Director of SEPSEE, Ms. Akiwumi has spent the last two years preparing to combat the high education failure rates of children with minority backgrounds in the United States.
