A projector is a simple optical device that projects an image on a flat surface, usually a television screen. Some newer projection screens make an image by projecting a light through an eyepiece, and some even use lasers to project the image. The images projected onto the screen are usually either made up of flat colors or have varying degrees of depth. One type of projection screens that are used for presentations is called an LCD projector, or Liquid Crystal Displays projector. It uses a liquid crystal on the surface of the screen and can be adjusted from a dimly lit background to a bright glare. In addition, it is generally more affordable than full-color, high-resolution screens.

Projector that project images onto a full-color screen have many advantages over LCD projector types. LCD screen uses the technology that makes computer monitors work and has much higher contrast compared to plasma displays and other LCDs. Full-color screens have wider viewing angles compared to LCD screens, meaning that they are able to project images in a wide range of directions, depending on the viewer's position. While the technology behind the full-color LCD is relatively new, the technology for projectors has been around for decades. The basic technology is the same. The difference in this case is that instead of using liquid crystals on the surface of the screen, the material is a thin transparent plastic called polyester.
