Violet St.Karl
Writer in New York
I was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit to parents who fled the former communist Yugoslavia, which left me culturally confused in America--1st born generation problems! Looking for a place to escape, er, fit in, I moved to New York City in 2006 to utilize my wild imagination in advertising, but in 2007 the dark side of the business called, as well as my bills, and I joined the media sales department at a global news publication.
I don't like the sight of blood, but my childhood left me predisposed to help people, so I sucked it up, and attended a 9/11 blood drive in 2011 but failed. My fear of needle got the best of me and I fainted, but it did leave me curious about blood types.
Subsequently, and unbeknownst to me when I signed my lease, I moved into the former site of Edgar Allen Poe's farmhouse, where he completed The Raven. Coincidence? That's for you to decide.
