The Bolivia Health Declaration Form is a declaration made by Bolivians to affirm their commitment to universal healthcare and to maintaining healthy lifestyles. It is an international declaration that promotes the country to identify its priorities, reach its public health goals and formulate the necessary measures to achieve them. It also highlights the fact that Bolivia has one of the best healthcare systems in the world, giving it the capability to give quality health services to its people. However, despite its high healthcare levels, Bolivia has one of the highest rates of people living in poverty.
This is due to a lack in infrastructure investment and basic services, poor quality health care services and high dependence on international assistance. Bolivia's Latin American neighbor, Argentina has been in a similar position to Bolivia for a long time. An economic boom has brought a lot of tourists from South America. This has led to a surge in unskilled jobs and people struggling to provide for their families. Bolivia has an active foreign assistance policy. However, it must improve its infrastructure to make the most of this. In addition, Bolivia's income per capita is less than the average in Latin America - and this means that the government must increase spending on health in order to boost its economy. Bolivia's residents will continue to suffer if it does not have a strong health system.
The Bolivia Health Declaration Form highlights three main areas of improvement: the promotion of general health, the promotion of primary health and education and the prevention of diseases and disabilities. Promoting general health is the first priority. This can be achieved through increased intake of nutritious foods (especially fruits, vegetables), correction of nutrient deficiencies and liberalization of pharmacies. Bolivian laws allow for the sale of food products that were previously prohibited. The law has also made it easier to import healthy foodstuffs from other countries (including those in Latin America). The United States and Latin America are the main beneficiaries of Bolivia's poor health indicators.
