A longtime outdoors enthusiast who frequently explores the state of Washington, Virginia Harris enjoys visiting Rainier National Park. When she travels to Rainier National Park, Virginia Harris enjoys visiting Sunrise, a 6,400-foot high landmark representing the highest point of vehicle access in the park. Sunrise is home to birds such as the Calliope Hummingbird, Mountain Blue Bird, Horned Lark, Gray Jay, and the Clark’s Nutcracker. Sunrise also plays host to black bears, mountain goat, and a diverse assortment of wildflowers.

Ms. Harris also enjoys spending time in Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park in Kittitas County, Washington. She has spotted summer visitors such as the Western Tanager, Yellow Warbler, Say’s Phoebe, and Bullock’s Oriole in the irrigated area of the park. Rock Wrens, Sage Thrashers, Vesper, Sparrows, Brewer’s Sparrows, and Sage Sparrows are found in the surrounding sage shrub steppe. Wildflowers color the in the canyon areas in spring and include balsamroot, brodiaea, desert buckwheat, phlox, paintbrush, and hedgehog cactus. An avid ornithologist, Virginia Harris enjoys visiting the Dungeness River Audubon Center in Callam County and frequently tunes in to Bird Note on the Pacific Northwest radio station KPLU.
