Constant Comparative Method

Constant comparative method is a well-structured iterative process involving comparing every new piece of data to data which the researchers have already examined.

Open Coding: Every bit of data is coded. Next, it is put under an appropriate topic category. In case no relevance is found, data bit is discarded. New data bits are compared with data that has already been analyzed.

Axial Coding: When researchers analyze data bits, they typically find new central topic categories. After coding the data and assigning it to relevant topic categories, researchers examine categories to check emerging themes. When researchers are unable to draw any new data from examined data, the situation is termed as theoretical saturation.

Selective Coding: This is the last stage of coding. In it, the researchers use categorical interrelationships and topic categories for creating a narrative which explains or tells the phenomena which is the central focus of their research.
