Viswaprasad Raju
I was born in a remote village in East Godavari and brought up in the outskirts of Hyderabad: around the Golconda fort in the Army quarters skirting the fort walls and around factories in Jeedimetla, thanks to my father's stints with the Army and with HMT. I ended my education with a diploma in Mechanical Engineering. I dropped out of a Creative Writing course later.
I soon started work (read play!) with Clea Advertising. I went from being a Trainee Copywriter to being a Creative Director in no time. I wrote campaigns, TVCs, ads, brochures, website content, obituary ads. And I had my big moments. Like being featured in Brand Equity for winning a creative award: one for creating a long-running, well-acclaimed billboard campaign for Medwin Hospitals that focused on social causes; 100-odd ads for Tata Cellular; working with some immensely talented professionals; being part of Doo Creative. I used to sketch when in school, which I started again. With more travel, I started writing travelogues. I'm currently working on a screenplay. I live with my family – grandma (95 and going strong), parents, wife, two daughters, a scurry of squirrels and a dream of going back to Europe or the National Parks of Central India whenever time permits. I collect coasters, am passionate about Tennis and have plans to come up with creative products, say calenders and diaries using my sketches.
