Vítor Cortes
Translator in Évora
Vítor Cortes is a professional European Portuguese Translator working as a freelancer for more than a decade (14+ years). He caught fire translating the instant he saw the lost in translation checkable fact in a clinical setting in his final year as an internship medical student in Australia. Just as crucial as healthcare, language is overriding too.
Back again in Portugal, he started his MA in Languages and Translation.
After completing his MA with success, he applied for a Portuguese Translator job position at the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union.
As an In-House Translator (2006–2011), he worked in the domains of education, employment, culture, transport, research and innovation, social affairs, environment, energy, chemistry, property rights, law, budget and finance, foreign and security policy, police and judicial cooperation, public health, and consumer protection.
After having acquired hands-on experience, he focused his work on the medical, technical, as well as related to the EU and international institutions, bodies, offices, and agencies.
In addition to keeping projects moving, submitting deliverables on time, and ensuring a seamless experience for all parties involved in the linguistic work, he is a fanatical lover of filmmaking, being his favourite scenes so far Virginia Woolf (portrayed by Nicole Kidman) and Leonard Woolf's (portrayed by Stephen Dillane) train station scene in The Hours and Charlie Spring (portrayed by Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson's (portrayed by Kit Connor) kiss at the birthday party scene in Heartstopper; and his favourite soundtrack the Interstellar best original score — nothing beats that pipe organ deepness.
